2013 MERCEDES-BENZ ML 350 4MATIC VIN 4JGDA5HB1DA248674

This Mercedes-Benz ML 350 4MATIC is a 2013 model, finished in black. Under the bonnet is a 3.5-litre petrol engine. Power reaches the wheels through an automatic gearbox.

The record gives the mileage as 169,522 miles. A clock converted from miles to kilometres should be documented, since the swap can hide the true mileage. The number on the clock proves little by itself; earlier figures logged at services and inspections are what make it believable. Service invoices and inspection reports each carry a mileage figure, and lined up in order they show whether the clock tells the truth.

The main issue noted for this car is rear-end damage. A damage entry is a starting point for the inspection, telling the mechanic where to look first. A lift and a diagnostic check show what photos cannot: bent brackets behind a panel, chafed wiring or deployed airbags.

A car that does not run has to be moved on a trailer, and its real condition is known only after a thorough assessment. The engine started. A key is on file for the car. Months of standing can leave a car with seized brakes and perished tyres.

According to the source data, the car has a clean title. With a clean title the car can be registered and insured in the usual way.

A car’s history answers three questions: who kept it, how it was looked after and what went wrong along the way. A car’s past rarely shows on the paintwork: a well-repaired accident or water damage that was dried out is easy to miss.

For the engine, the service history matters most: oil changes, filters and the timing belt or chain are the entries to look for. Many modern petrol engines are turbocharged and direct-injected; where they are, the turbocharger and injectors belong on a specialist’s checklist. With no test drive possible, the automatic gearbox has to be assessed on a lift and with diagnostic equipment.

The ninth character of the VIN is a check digit calculated from the other sixteen, so a mistyped or invented number does not add up. For this car, the VIN is 4JGDA5HB1DA248674.

A VIN report shows what has been logged: earlier registrations, odometer figures, damage entries, branded titles and theft checks, wherever such data exists. Paperwork is only as complete as the people who kept it, so a report with few entries lowers the risk without removing it. The past is on file; the car’s condition today is a job for a mechanic, who can check the structure, underbody, electrics and any repairs on a lift. Before going any further with this Mercedes-Benz ML 350 4MATIC, it makes sense to look up VIN 4JGDA5HB1DA248674.
